Tom Brady issues glowing verdict of NFL quarterback

NFL legend and current Fox Sports commentator Tom Brady has issued a glowing review of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.

Purdy has been the 49ers starting quarterback since midway through the 2022, when injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo forced the team’s hand. And he has not relented since.

Purdy has led San Francisco to back-to-back conference championship appearances but is facing more hardship this season.

San Francisco is 4-4 and not currently in a playoff spot at the NFL regular season’s halfway point. Part of the reason the 49ers have an even record is the slew of injuries to its biggest stars, including running back Christian McCaffrey.

Yet, Brady believes Purdy can be the key to San Francisco not falling off completely the rest of the season.

Tom Brady complimented the poise of San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy this week

Brady is a seven-time Super Bowl winner and will call Purdy's game on Sunday for Fox Sports

‘I think it’s poise and composure. It’s calm under chaos. That’s what the quarterback needs to do. He walks into that huddle, meets 10 other guys looking at him … and they all have that confidence in Brock as a player,’ Brady said of Purdy on ‘The Herd.’

‘This offense, to me, even studying the last few days, is a lot different than the one they had last year and the year before. They had so many weapons the last couple years.’

‘Brock essentially was a point guard out there just delivering balls to halfbacks and flipping it out there to (Deebo) Samuel to gain yards, and then he’s got (Brandon) Aiyuk catching in cuts and running for lunch.’

The 49ers have also had injuries along its offensive line and to George Kittle, who is considered one of the best tight ends in the NFL.

Even better news for San Francisco is that the NFC West is the most even division in football.

The 49ers are a half-game behind the Arizona Cardinals for first place in the division. They’re also a half-game ahead of the Seattle Seahawks for last place.

All is to play for in San Francisco, with a road test against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday with Brady on the call.
