Trump Treasury Sec Nominee Lights Up Woke Bishop With Scolding of His Own

Bishop Marian Budde caused a stir when she took what was supposed to be a moment for unity at the National Prayer Service, and used it as a moment to deliver a woke, political message to President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance. It was both rude and completely inappropriate.

Instead, she disgraced herself with a lecture you’d hear on CNN or an episode of The View.

What an embarrassment.

She whipped up fear, claiming “gay, lesbian, and transgender children” are in danger from Trump, and some “fear for their lives.” Trump is not endangering their lives. Yet, this might actually make them think that their lives are in danger from him. Meanwhile, it’s the left pushing woke ideologies that truly endangers them.

Budde also reduced illegal aliens down to “the people who pick our crops, and clean our office buildings, who labor in poultry farms and meatpacking plants, who wash the dishes after we eat in restaurants, and work the night shifts in hospitals,” and told Trump he should “have mercy.”

Legal immigrant and new senator from Ohio, Bernie Moreno ripped this woke scolding by the Bishop, saying it was insulting to the people who came here legally, that she would try to lecture Trump this way. But he wasn’t the only one.

Now, Treasury Secretary nominee Scott Bessent has let loose on the Bishop in a new letter, in which he demands that she apologize to President Trump and the American people. I didn’t really have a good sense of Bessent before, but he’s showing with this letter to the NY Post that he’s not shy about standing right in the thick of things with Trump.

Bessent blasted her for an attempt to “selfishly steal the spotlight” and air political grievances at what was supposed to be a joyous event. She was tasked with a “welcome,” but decided to “hijack the day” with “inappropriate grandstanding.”

He said she proved herself to be a “narrow-minded, out-of-touch elite with little regard for the facts”:

She regurgitated the tired trope of the fears of the LGBTQ+ and immigrant communities. On November 5th, President Trump received record support from the gay and lesbian community and shattered voting records with Hispanic voters. Her reductionist views were shocking as she described illegal immigrants as those who “pick our crops, cleans [sic] our office buildings, labor in poultry farms…”

More importantly, the Bishop showed no empathy to the American citizens who have seen their communities overrun, their children die from cross-border drugs and their wages crushed by illegal immigration.

She didn’t mention the Americans hurt by the massive influx at the border and the illegal alien problem. She doesn’t seem to care this is about enforcing the law and defending the country, which is the first charge of the president.

Bessent also ripped her fear-mongering remarks about Trump and gay people.

She also chose to ignore that President Trump is devoid of prejudice when it come to sexual preference. If confirmed as his Secretary of the Treasury, I will be the highest ranking openingly gay official in the history of the United States. As President

Trump said in his Inauguration Day speech, “Society will be merit-based.” Does she believe God frowns on meritocracy? [….]

The Executive Council of the Episcopal Church in America should publicly condemn her usurping the day; otherwise, the Traditional Prayer Service should be moved from the National Cathedral. Whether Bishop Budde asks God for forgiveness is her business, but she owes President Trump and the American people an apology.

Now that sounds like it’s right on target.
