Trump Wants ‘Nuclear Peace Agreement’ With Iran, Doesn’t Want to Blow Rogue Nation ‘to Smithereens’

As RedState reported in separate articles on Tuesday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order reinstating a “maximum pressure” campaign against Iran, telling reporters he believes the rogue Islamist nation is “close” to developing a nuclear weapon. 

Also on Tuesday, Trump revealed he has left instructions to have Iran “obliterated” if it follows through on threats to assassinate him. The Justice Department confirmed in November it had charged an Iranian agent and two U.S. citizens in a plot to kill Trump at the direction of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.

On Wednesday morning, Trump took a different approach with Tehran, posting on social media that he would rather sign a “verifiable nuclear peace treaty” with Iran — rather than blow it “to smithereens.”

I want Iran to be a great and successful Country, but one that cannot have a Nuclear Weapon. Reports that the United States, working in conjunction with Israel, is going to blow Iran into smithereens ARE GREATLY EXAGGERATED.

I would much prefer a Verified Nuclear Peace Agreement, which will let Iran peacefully grow and prosper. We should start working on it immediately, and have a big Middle East Celebration when it is signed and completed. God Bless the Middle East!

I wonder what the mullahs thought when they no doubt read Trump’s post.

Clearly, the president is employing a “carrot and stick” strategy here. The question is whether it can work with the Islamist extremists. I have serious doubts, which have nothing to do with Trump and everything to do with Iran and radical Islam.

A fundamental reality when dealing with Islamist extremists is that while the West thinks, acts, and negotiates with a rational, Western-values mindset, radical Islamists don’t. They never have; they never will.

A good example has been Israel’s stated goal of completely wiping out Hamas, with the reality being that it’s not about killing all of the terrorists; it’s about destroying radical Islamist fundamentalism itself. Without doing so, the more terrorists that are killed, the more terrorists that are created. 

The above reality applies to negotiating with a rogue Islamist state that has repeatedly vowed to destroy Israel, its “occupation,” and Judaism itself in the Middle East — as a start. 

This is a harsh reality. 

So while Donald Trump admirably says he’d rather sign a verifiable nuclear agreement with Iran, its ultimate goal in the Middle East is to eat the proverbial Jewish elephant one bite at a time and destroy Israel.
