Twisties Australia is under fire from fans after releasing a controversial new flavour which is available for two weeks only.
The popular chip company claims the new flavour, caviar, adds ‘a touch of luxury’ to its popular range.
But customers were fuming: ‘Leave Twisties alone!’ one demanded after hearing the news.
The new Twisties are limited edition – and cannot be bought in-store. Instead Twisties will be giving away 30 packets a day from November 18 to November 277.
They are part of an exclusive social giveaway the company claims will elevate snack time to a luxurious experience.
Twisties Brand Manager, Simon Odisho, said the exclusive flavour takes the brand to new heights.
‘People might be asking why we would combine the humble Twistie with one of the most luxurious flavours in the world, and we say to the critics – everyone deserves a bit of luxury in their life,’ he said.
The team at Grocery Geek leaked the flavour last week – claiming the ‘wizards at Twisties are either geniuses or they have completely gone crazy’.
And their fans had mixed feelings.
‘Oh yuck, what the heck,’ said one.
While another admitted: ‘I don’t know what caviar tastes like, so I wouldn’t know if they got it right or not.’
A third joked: ‘Sounds a bit fishy to me.’
This isn’t the first time fans have been left bewildered by the company’s ‘special flavours’.
In May Twisties divided Australians after quietly introducing a new product combining two of the most popular (and divisive) flavours into one bag.
The new Twisties Chickeese merges both the chicken and cheese flavours into the same packet.
The decision has been labelled a ‘monstrosity’ by some; others are thrilled and have gushed about the ‘groundbreaking’ idea.
Many were outraged by the merge.
‘What is this monstrosity?’ one asked.
‘Ugh. Imagine biting into a Twistie and realising it’s cheese flavoured,’ another wrote.
‘I feel like at the factory they accidentally mixed a whole bunch together, or there is a place in production where loose but still edible Twisties all end up in the same place, and this is marketing’s solution,’ one said.
Other foodies were on board with the decision.
‘Saves me buying two bags or having to choose. Now make a bag that has Burger Rings mixed in as well and I’ll be even happier,’ one wrote.
‘Not going to lie – would be interested in trying a pack,’ another said.
‘I can’t wait to try them. Love me Twisties,’ one more added.
