Two teenage boys have been arrested after a 12-year-old girl was allegedly stabbed on Barry Island, leaving her ‘seriously injured’.
The incident took place on Sunday evening near the Harbour Road car park.
The victim was rushed to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.
Police have said she is ‘seriously injured although her condition is not life-threatening’.
Two boys from the local area, aged 13 and 15, have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and remain in police custody.
The younger boy has also been arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article.
South Wales Police has said an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Detective inspector Phil Marchant said: ‘Understandably this incident and the ages of those involved will cause worry within the community.
‘Two suspects, who are known to the victim, were arrested within an hour and at this stage we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the assault.’
