There are some politicians who seemingly didn’t get the “shame” gene, you know, the one that makes you feel embarrassed when you do something stupid or unethical. Bill Clinton comes to mind. Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is at or near the top of the list.

One smooth-talking pol trying to make it into the No Shame Hall of Fame is California’s Gov. Gavin Newsom, who will with a toothy smile tell you the Golden State model is awesome even as we’re surrounded by homelessness, as our taxes keep going up while services decline, and as a tsunami of companies has ditched the joint for greener pastures in recent years.
It’s hardly a surprise, then, to see the famously well-coiffed governor flying to Washington D.C. Wednesday to beg the president for more money to recover from the tragic wildfires—only to return home and immediately approve a $50 million special legislative “Trump-proofing” package.
Now that takes some gall, even for the guy who decades ago promised us he would solve the (ever-worsening) homelessness crisis.
Newsom just signed the “Trump-proofing” bills. This is despite Trump graciously meeting with him in DC and devoting the fourth day of his presidency to personally visiting LA.
Our Governor never ceases to amaze with his lack of decency and disregard for our state.

Of course, he tried to make it sound like he was just a big-hearted protector of his people:
Newsom said the bill will “bolster funding for legal services programs that are vital to safeguarding the civil rights of California’s most vulnerable residents, including people with disabilities, youth who are homeless, victims of human trafficking and wage theft, people facing unlawful evictions, immigrants and more.
“None of the funding in this bill is intended to be used for immigration-related legal services for noncitizens convicted of serious or violent felonies,” he added in a signing statement.
Of course, that all sounds good, but he hasn’t been protecting regular tax-paying citizens for years. Now he wants to thwart the will of the duly elected president who won both the popular and electoral vote. This is what he’s actually doing:
The package, which was passed by the state Senate and Assembly, allocates $25 million to the California Department of Justice to support legal battles against Trump’s federal policies, including environmental regulations and illegal immigration. An additional $25 million is designated for legal aid groups to assist illegal immigrants facing potential deportation.
Newsom lobbed hundreds of lawsuits against the Trump administration during Trump’s first term.

Here is the governor who some refer to as Gov. Hair Gel talking out of the other side of his mouth:
“We’re working across the aisle, as we always have, to ensure survivors have the resources and support they need,” Newsom said in a statement on Wednesday. “Thank you President Trump for coming to our communities to see this first hand, and meeting with me today to continue our joint efforts to support people impacted.”
This anti-Trump fund is hardly a great use of our money when the state is already essentially broke. It’s pretty gross, even for Newsom.
