USAID Flacks Have Been Given Their Laughable Talking Points, Including a Fox News Reporter

Donald Trump’s war on the bureaucratic state has recently centered on USAID, a slush fund of taxpayer often money used to pay off NGOs, warlords, and anti-American states under the guise of “soft power.” In some cases, money was even funneled to left-wing domestic organizations claiming to promote “democracy.” 

The drama began on Friday after Nick Gottlieb, USAID’s director of employee and labor relations, attempted to override the Trump administration’s order to place 60 officials on leave. As RedState reported, they were identified as trying to circumvent and undermine the newly inaugurated president’s executive orders. After Gottlieb refused, claiming due process rights, he too was placed on administrative leave, signaling that the White House wasn’t interested in playing games. 

That was just the beginning, though. The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) stepped in to start auditing USAID, leading to a freeze on all its spending. On Sunday, another attempt at a coup was made, with Musk’s team being locked out of the building. Within hours, the security officials involved in the decision were also put on administrative leave. Naturally, the developments at USAID have sent the press and their left-wing allies into a frenzy, and they’ve settled on a talking point: This helps Russia and China. 

Here’s Fox News’ Jennifer Griffin, who has become nothing but a mouthpiece for Biden-era officials, pushing that line. 

Griffin reporting with a straight face that USAID is an “independent agency” is the funniest thing I’ve seen in a while. Under Joe Biden, it was run by Samantha Power. You may recognize that name because she was the Obama official who unmasked Michael Flynn and other Trump associates in intelligence documents, essentially spying on American citizens. She’s also infamous for her role in the so-called “Arab Spring” while serving as UN Ambassador. 

And we are supposed to believe she was just an unbiased force leading a completely independent agency? USAID has been a disaster of waste and abuse, with that waste and abuse often targeted at bolstering left-wing ideology throughout the world. In many cases, its activities would be considered outright bribery of some of the worst people, governments, and organizations on the planet.

The thing is, USAID’s supporters don’t even hide the fact that it’s a slush fund used to helicopter taxpayer money to bad actors for political purposes. They simply describe it as “soft power” because that sounds more soft and cuddly, and supposedly, if your money isn’t given to terrorists in Gaza, for example, the Russians and Chinese will step in to fill the void. To which I ask, so what? 

I hate to break it to Rhodes, but American standing has been in the toilet for the last four years and chaos has tried around the globe. The idea that USAID has done anything tangible to preserve and expand U.S. power is not backed by any evidence. Instead, when you go through the expenditures of the agency, it’s a laundry list of left-wing causes that just so happen to benefit left-wing allies. That includes NGOs that have worked against American interests regarding the border crisis. 

If China and Russia want to set money on fire in corrupt, third-world countries, they are welcome to do so, but the “it’ll benefit our enemies!” manipulation tactic no longer works. Griffin, Rhodes, and others can try it, but there’s a new sheriff in Washington, and he’s not interested in the status quo that has done nothing but diminish the United States.
