Vitor Pereira did not hold back in his criticism of Matheus Cunha, who performed poorly and displayed negative body language throughout Wolves‘ 3-1 defeat by Chelsea on Monday night.

The Midlands club find themselves languishing in 17th place – only separated from the relegation zone by goal difference – after succumbing to goals from Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Cucurella and Noni Madueke at Stamford Bridge.

Wolves were in the game for most of the night – and level with their hosts until the hour mark – with Matt Doherty having equalised for Pereira’s side.

But they fell away in the final third of the match and, afterwards,  Pereira admonished Cunha for his behaviour.

‘I had this conversation in the dressing room,’ Pereira said. ‘He can be frustrated because he wants to win, but everybody in the team wants to win.

‘I don’t like this body language. I want someone as a captain trying to help the team – running, suffering, fighting together. This is something I can understand. Next time, I will not understand.’

On Cunha walking straight down the tunnel at full-time, Pereira added: ‘This is something that cannot happen again.’

Asked if his head has been turned amid January interest, the Wolves boss answered: ‘It’s human that the players start to be a little bit… it’s normal in football.’
