For many of us, one thing that will be very memorable (but not in a good way) about 2024 from a political standpoint is how the Biden White House and the media both rushed in with the “cheap fakes” talking point after the infamous June Los Angeles fundraiser video of President Joe Biden made the rounds.

As RedState readers will recall, Biden, looking lost, out of it, and wooden had to be led off the stage by the hand at the swanky George Clooney/Julia Roberts gathering by former President Barack Obama, who gently guided the man who served with him as vice president away from the Peacock Theater crowd.
That was on June 15th, 2024. Nearly two weeks later, Biden would have one of the most disastrous presidential debates in American history, confirming what his critics said all along about him was true. It was a moment that changed everything about his political future, the presidency, the Democrat Party, and the nation headed into the November elections.

But though the “cheap fakes” talking points era seems almost like a lifetime ago at this point, it was a timeframe deservedly revisited in the aftermath of fresh reporting from both the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times on Biden’s cognitive decline.
For a refresher, the Times admitted this week that “it’s hard to imagine” how Biden could have thought he could run the country for another four years. The WSJ dropped an in-depth piece that detailed just how elaborate the cover-up was inside the Biden White House starting even before he officially took office.
In light of that, let’s revisit CNN media hall monitor Brian Stelter’s remarks in the aftermath of the LA fundraiser, where he tried to suggest that there was a difference between who Biden really was and what we saw in those “short… out of context” video clips:

Two Bidens: Some of us are watching long, complete speeches by the president. Others just watching short, out of context clips on social media. Two audiences are seeing two very different reflections. pic.twitter.com/fg8Sle9qpK

Then there was MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace, who went even further:
In light of today’s WSJ report exposing Biden as completely unable to do the job of President for the last 4 years, I once again raise you this June 17, 2024 clip from Nicole Wallace — who spoke about a Republican plot to create “insidious cheap-fakes” painting Biden as unfit for… pic.twitter.com/1fzPFDGGSB

Understandably, people are calling on Stelter and Wallace to reassess their earlier comments to see if they’re finally ready to revise them:
Can we get a follow-up on this? Which “reflection” turned out correct? https://t.co/lUAig8KPDJ

There will be no follow-up, but even if there was, it would be of the self-serving variety as we saw from former CNN editor at large Chris Cillizza Thursday, where he apologized for not asking more questions about Biden’s decline and confessed that he allowed the White House to intimidate him into silence – something he would have severely pushed back on had the Oval Office occupant had an “R” by their name.

No one in the media who perpetuated the lie about Biden being fine is genuinely sorry for what they did. They’re just sorry they got caught – and that Biden forced their hand on the issue at a time they were prepared to drag him over the finish line one final time by gaslighting the American people at an unprecedented level.
Final thoughts from independent journalist Glenn Greenwald:
The most significant media scandal of the Biden years was how they did not just hide what the public knew — Biden’s severe cognitive decline to the point he couldn’t remotely govern — but their aggressive attacks on anyone pointing it out as “disinformation agents.” https://t.co/7LRFfRTmX2

‘Nuff said.
