Jonathan Capehart’s resume reads like a who’s who of left-wing quackery. The Washington Post associate editor, co-host of “Brooks and Capehart” on “PBS NewsHour,” and host of “The Saturday/Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart” on MSNBC is as detached from political reality as they come.

The hack “journalist” clearly illustrated “all of the above” during the Biden era’s final installment of “Brooks and Capehart” on Friday.
After David Brooks, also a New York Times columnist, asserted that President-elect Donald Trump’s decisive election win over Vice President Kamala Harris showed that President Joe Biden failed to protect democracy in America, Capehart went full-metal Hillary Clinton and Biden, arguing that Trump’s win was fueled by voters who “gave up on democracy” and instead chose to “try this authoritarianism.”

Unlike Hillary, who infamously referred to Trump supporters as “a basket of deplorables” during the 2016 presidential campaign, and Biden upping the game by calling Trump loyalists “garbage” in 2024, it’s probably not a good idea to ridicule half of America for supporting your opponent. Just sayin’.
Brooks, not exactly a conservative, kicked off the festivities (emphasis, mine):
The thing about Biden is, we go around the country, we have followed him for decades now. He’s done a wonderful job over the course of his career, just a wonderful job. And I go around the country in New York State or Ohio, and there are manufacturing jobs coming back.
But as Frank Foer wrote in The Atlantic today, his job was to end — to fight authoritarianism. The whole thing was to preserve democracy. And the election of Donald Trump suggested to some large degree he failed at that large mission.
And so, at some sense, a wonderful guy, he’s been a great public service, but there’s a sadness and a tragedy at the end of it.

In addition to Brooks’s assertion about Trump being idiotic on its face, it was Biden and the Democrats who did their best to make a mockery out of democracy. One need not look any further than the Democrats’ embrace of naked lawfare against Trump, contrasted with Biden’s full and unconditional pardon of his crackhead son Hunter Biden, to see the absurdity in the ridiculous assertion.
On Friday, meanwhile, the president unilaterally declared that the Equal Rights Amendment was the “law of the land.” The only problem: it was never legally ratified and is not the law of the land. Talk about authoritarianism.
Capehart was having none of it, choosing to blame voters instead of Biden.
I don’t know if it’s so much that he failed, because he did try. And lots of people criticized him for talking about it, including those of — some of us in the media.
But I go back to a question that I asked, I believe around the table when we were here for the marathon election night coverage, that I just wonder if, with these results, the American people just sort of gave up on democracy, or wanting to, hey, let’s try this authoritarianism, this guy who has told us what he wants to do. Let’s give that a shot. That’s the thing that concerns me the most.
I have no words to describe Capehart’s delusion — or blatant lying.
As I reported in early December, Capehart declared on “PBS NewsHour” that Biden’s pardon of Hunter was more than justified.

[Y]es, it was justified. When the president said that he would not pardon his son, wouldn’t grant clemency, the facts on the ground were completely different. It’s the middle of a presidential campaign. He was the candidate for president, didn’t want to be viewed as interfering. He’s no longer the candidate. His vice president is the presidential nominee.
Huh? Please.

My favorite part is how these “journalists” can smugly spew such nonsense with a straight face.
So here’s the deal:
While some in the Democrat Party realize that the party left the American people, not the other way around, hacks like Capehart, most if not all of MSNBC’s on-air “talent,” and that of CNN — the self-proclaimed “most trusted name in news” — are never going to get it.
Let’s hope they don’t.
