South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem is set to be grilled in her confirmation hearing on Friday before the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

Noem, who has served as both a governor and a member of the House of Representatives, has been nominated to head the Department of Homeland Security. The DHS has 260,000 employees and has a gamut of agencies/departments, including FEMA, the TSA, the Secret Service, and the Coast Guard.

But the big thing that’s going to earn Noem questions is expected to be the part covering immigration and the border: U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, Customs and Border Protection, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Democrats will likely question her on President Donald Trump’s plans for deportations and security.

This committee is a bit smaller than some of the others, with only 15 members total, so that may make the hearing a bit shorter — or allow the senators more time for questioning. Noem will undoubtedly meet some resistance from the Democrats on the committee, which include Ranking Member Gary Peters (MI), Maggie Hassan (NH), Richard Blumenthal (CT), John Fetterman (PA), Andy Kim (NJ), Ruben Gallego (AZ), and Elissa Slotkin (MI).
