Wetherspoon fans shocked as 2005 menu resurfaces revealing drastically different prices – and prompting punters to beg for old items to return

A 2005 menu from Wetherspoons has resurfaced – and it has prompted fans to call on the UK chain to bring back some old gems.

Many have also noticed how much prices at the popular chain have increased in the intervening 19 years.

And while the chain’s steak and curry club nights remain, punters are surprised that some dishes have disappeared altogether.

When it comes to some of the price increases, the cost of wine in 2005 includes a £1.95 price tag for a medium (175ml) glass.

But now Spoons charges £4.55 for a small Chardonnay.

In 2005, there was a deal of two meals for just £5.75. An equivalent now - the deli deal - will set you back a whopping £14.75 for three meals in comparison

In 2005, a small glass of house red wine at Wetherspoon could set you back as little as just £1.95

Meanwhile, those looking for a hot drink could pick up a cappuccino, latte, espresso, or cup of tea for just 89p

A cappuccino, latte, espresso, or cup of tea cost customers just 89p, compared to today’s price of £1.56 for free refills.

A slap-up steak dinner used to set punters back £6.15 for an 8oz sirloin.

Now, it would cost you £13.00, with a soft drink.

There was also a deal of two meals for just £5.75, whereas now the deli deal will set you back a whopping £14.75 for three meals.

Some fans of the chain have been seen discussing the price increases online.

One said said: ‘Those were the days.’

‘Some nicer meals on the menu then,’ another noted. ‘I miss the lamb shank.’

Meanwhile, another said: ‘Shocking how little things have increased in 20 years.’

Speaking online, fans of the chain lamented the price increases over the past almost 20 years - with some asking for the return of old dishes

‘Now people think having an Aunt Bessies Sunday dinner served in polystyrene and delivered from a local pub or cafe, [is] a bargain at 15 quid.’

Meanwhile another added: ‘Wish they were like that now but still decent for today.’

And a further fan of the chain wrote: ‘Please Wetherspoons bring back this menu.

‘Most of the meals sound great.’
