What I Learned From Democrats’ Awful Performance at SecDef Hearings: Ted Kennedy Would Never Get Approved

RedState extensively covered the Senate confirmation hearings on Tuesday to confirm Donald Trump’s pick for Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth. The event was displayed for the country and the world to see, and what a doozy of a day it was.

This naturally made me sit and ponder some of what I had watched, and it made me think.

What on God’s green Earth are some of these yahoos thinking?

I start with a story that I read right HERE about one of the esteemed senators from Michigan and his line of thinking, or lack thereof.

Hegseth said in his role at a veterans organization he oversaw about 100 full-time staff and thousands of volunteers.

“Nothing remotely near the size of the Defense Department, I would acknowledge that,” Hegseth told [Democrat Sen. Gary] Peters.

“Not remotely near even a medium-sized company in America,” the senator added.

In his closing remarks Tuesday, Peters suggested Hegseth hadn’t won his vote.

“You have not convinced me that you’re able to take on this tremendous responsibility with a complex organization and having little or no significant management experience,” Peters told Hegseth.

“Senator, I’m grateful to be hired by one of the most successful CEOs in American history, should I be confirmed,” Hegseth replied, referring to Trump.

Then the chair of the esteemed committee landed this comment…

After Peters’ remarks, Republican committee Chairman Roger Wicker of Mississippi said to Hegseth that it seems he has supervised “far more people” than the average U.S. senator supervises.

Sen. Markwayne Mullin, the GOP senator from Oklahoma, poked at Peters’ line of questioning by saying Mullin wouldn’t hire some of his Senate colleagues.

“There’s a lot of talk going about talking about qualifications, and then about us hiring him if we are the board,” Mullin said. “But there’s a lot of senators here I wouldn’t have on my board.”

Sen. Peters’ best days as an elected official were over before he officially started, so I have never expected much from him.

However, the nonsensical talking points being spewed from those who would NEVER vote for anyone that Donald Trump praised, let alone would want to hire for a position, did not stop there, as my colleague Strieff covered. Pete Hegseth Brings His ‘A’ Game and Gets the Job Done.

And Fauxcahontas (D-MA) succeeded in making herself the butt of her own zinger.

Warren: “You are quite sure every General who serves should not go directly into the defense industry for 10 years but you’re not willing to make that same pledge?”

Hegseth: “I’m not a General, Senator.”

Make sure to read Streiff’s piece above and ALL the coverage of these hearings here at RedState.

Yet, with the Trump Derangement Syndrome on full display Tuesday, it made me wonder why the Democrats are now so worried about issues like these if…

The drinking, extramarital affairs, or a slew of other things that they found offensive, would the former LION (lyin’) of the Senate from the not-so-great state of Massachusetts, the late Ted Kennedy, qualify for any job requiring Senate confirmation?

I won’t even bring up the obvious problem or concern that Ted Kennedy experienced: leaving a party, possibly intoxicated, then driving off a bridge and allowing his passenger to drown without calling authorities for help until the next morning.

Because, of course, his older brothers were tragically murdered, he was given the grace of forgiveness politically for screwing up in such a bad way while experiencing grief.

Does anyone believe one Democrat who uttered a cheap shot at Pete Hegseth yesterday would ever have had the guts to mention any of the sins Ted Kennedy had committed in his over 40 years in public life if he were brought back to life and nominated for any position?

Nope.

These hearings have become campaign commercials in the making for the elected officials looking to get their YouTube or TikTok hits. They have staff find small factoids to hit the nominees with, and the actual questions needed to see if these people are qualified to lead the departments they have been tapped to are lost.

The circus that was held by the Senate Democrats yesterday was their last best shot to stop Hegseth from winning confirmation to be the nation’s next secretary of defense. I’m pretty sure they failed and looked like clowns in the process, and we all should be embarrassed for it.

If you think otherwise, I have a bridge to sell you in Chappaquiddick super cheap.

Democrats would hate that comment, but if Kennedy had a “R” after his name or was a friend of Trump, you can be sure it would have been fair game.
