When David Beckham and Victoria Beckham‘s son Romeo Beckham was spotted locking lips with photographer Gray Sorrenti earlier this week, it skyrocketed the brunette beauty into the spotlight practically overnight.
But it turns out, model, photographer, and social media sensation Gray – who is the daughter of acclaimed snapper Mario Sorrenti – has already made quite a name for herself in the fashion industry.
At just 23 years old, she has shot for a slew of big magazines and brands including Calvin Klein, Saint Laurent, Harper’s Bazaar, WSJ Magazine, and i-D, and she has had her work featured on billboards across New York, Los Angeles, and Paris.
In addition, she has amassed more than 123,000 followers on Instagram and has photographed a slew of big stars including Hailey Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, and Jennifer Lopez.
Gray once insisted that she is not a nepo baby, despite hailing from one of the most successful snappers on the globe.
‘I didn’t become a photographer because my dad’s a photographer,’ she told Business of Fashion back in August.
‘Having grown up in a family that has some sort of success in fashion does give you some sort of privilege.
‘But at the end of day, anyone can recognize if you have “it” or you don’t, because that can only take you so far.’
Gray grew up in Riverdale in the Bronx with her dad – who’s best known for shooting Kate Moss’ iconic Calvin Klein Obsession ads back in the 90s – brother, and mom, artist Mary Frey.
She attended an elite private school on the Upper West Side, where she mingled with other celebrity children, including Maya Hawke.
She recalled spending a lot of time on sets with her father as a child to Document Journal, explaining, ‘I played, bugged the stylists, chatted with the models, hung out with the hairdressers and makeup artist.
‘I witnessed his whole beautiful process of creating an image, studying light, connecting with his subjects, researching, editing, printing and his meticulous layouts.’
She started taking photos herself when she was 13 years old, and she would often capture various events and people around New York City.
‘From an early age, I was intrigued by imagery and film,’ she told Elle magazine.
‘I would spend hours in my tiny room setting up scenarios and acting them out, so I guess that’s where it started.
‘I can’t ever remember not being surrounded by beautiful mind-bending images that are forever ingrained in me.’
By the time she was finished with high school, Gray was already a massive success, with campaigns for Loewe and Dazed already under her belt.
‘My high school graduation was in the middle of Saint Laurent campaigns,’ she recalled to Business of Fashion.
‘I flew to LA to shoot women’s, flew back to New York to graduate, and flew back to LA to do men’s.’
Her famous father told the publication that he now turns to Gray for ‘help.’
‘[I’ll ask], “What do you think of this? What do you think of this picture? Do you like this better? Do you like that better?”‘ he shared.
‘It’s very mutual and something we enjoy sharing together. We all rely on each other to stay grounded, to stay honest, to stay true, to have respect.
‘You need to have a certain amount of ego to be creative, but you also don’t want that to take over your life because it can be very self-destructive.’
She explained to Document Journal that she has her dad on ‘speed dial,’ and often turns to him for advice.
‘We talk all of the time – not only about pictures, but also about life, love, art, and practical things, as well,’ she dished.
‘He gives great love advice. His attention to detail is phenomenal. I love his process and feel very lucky to be influenced by him and his art.’
In addition to her booming photography career, Gray – who has racked up a slew of celebrity friends, including Bella Hadid, Fai Khadra, and Luka Sabbat – is also a successful model and has a passion for dirt biking.
She and former football star Romeo, 22, were first linked in September, as they attended the YSL after show together during Paris Fashion Week.
They seemed to confirm that they were dating earlier this week, as they were caught packing on the PDA while out for a stroll in New York City.
