Who will play Dorothy in Wicked: Part Two? Rumors erupt after fans spot subtle detail on red carpet

Ever since Wicked hit theaters on Friday, fans have been left wondering: who will play Dorothy in the upcoming second installment?

Now, people on X, formerly Twitter, are convinced that they have figured it out, after they noticed that a certain actress showed up at the premiere earlier this month wearing a suspicious accessory.

The two-part movie adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical tells the story of how the Wicked Witch of the West from the Wizard of Oz came to be.

The first film, which earned a record-breaking $114 million at the US box office opening weekend, only showed Dorothy for a brief moment.

She was seen walking down the yellow brick road with her pals Scarecrow, Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion in the opening scene, before it went back in time to explain what led to those events.

But based on the teaser for the movie series, Dorothy will be featured more in the second half, which is set to premiere in November 2025.

However, the actress who will play Dorothy has not been announced, and her face was conveniently hidden from all the scenes that she has appeared in so far.

This has sparked immense speculation about who has been cast as the iconic character.

Some social media users have theorized that actress Alisha Weir will portray Dorothy after she walked the red carpet at the London premiere of Wicked wearing a pair metallic silver flats.

People on X have pointed out that the shoes looked very similar to the iconic glass slippers that Dorothy wears in the film, leaving them to wonder if she purposely wore them as a nod to the character. 

Alisha, 15, is best known for playing Matilda in the Netflix adaptation of Matilda the Musical and the titular character in the horror flick Abigail.

‘Streets are saying Abigail is playing Dorothy in Wicked: Part Two,’ one fan excited wrote on X earlier this week.

‘Oh hell yeah, miss girl is booked and busy and ready to take over the industry,’ someone else replied.

Another user added, ‘The fact that she was wearing silver shoes to one of the premieres…’

‘This would be peak. And she can sing too,’ a fourth comment read.

‘If this is true, go ahead and give Dorothy a song ’cause that Matilda soundtrack ate down,’ a fifth said.

‘She would make the perfect Dorothy,’ gushed a different person.

‘The shoes she’s wearing on top of being at the premiere confirms it,’ another insisted.

Others, however, pointed out that in the play that the film is based off of, Dorothy is heard speaking but she’s never actually shown.

‘Dorothy isn’t in the musical, just a shadow in a very quick sequence. So it would be weird to add her as a character in the movie,’ one X user explained. ‘Part one stuck to the script pretty tightly.’

‘I wonder how they’re going to utilize Dorothy in Wicked: Part Two since they didn’t use her in the stage production aside from mentioning her in the dialogue,’ another person wondered. 

‘There’s no way someone is being booked to play Dorothy in part two of Wicked. 

‘I don’t know why there’s so much speculation when it’s abundantly clear she is a faceless entity on purpose,’ someone else stated.

‘Whether Dorothy has a speaking role or not, they still needed an actress to play her likeness,’ another user pointed out. ‘Like in the opening scene of her walking the road.’

Director Jon Chu previously confirmed to Variety that fans can expect to see more of Dorothy in Wicked: Part Two, but stayed tight-lipped about how much she’ll be in it.

‘We will revisit those characters in movie two,’ he said, when asked about Dorothy, Tin Man, Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion.

‘In the show, Dorothy is around. They have to intersect, and you can only tease it so much. 

‘I won’t say whether she’s a character, necessarily, in movie two. There’s a part of me that wants everyone’s Dorothy to be the whatever Dorothy they want. And yet, there is interaction and some crossover. So I’ll leave that up to Part Two.’
